Acceptance

Over the last two months I have slowly started to feel more peaceful everyday. Acceptance has started and I am getting my head round the emotions that have come with a terminally ill parent and the knowledge of having inherited the gene that is at fault. This acceptance and feeling of peace has come with building my relationship with God. I always sat in church feeling 'sorted' never really feeling like I was in need of anything more. Often the pastor would speak about going forward in faith, growing in relationship etc but I couldn't relate. I couldn't see how or why. I suppose I was stagnant. I had stopped praying. I had stopped reading my bible. No wonder I wasn't getting excited, I had forgotten the joy of growing in faith and having a meaningful relationship with God. This growth has come from several places.... Being involved in the children's work at church and being paired up with a very down to earth, kind but most importantly very faithful guy. H...

What a December to remember!

This month has been an emotional rollercoaster, nothing horrific but enough to test my strength and faith, it has reassured me that choosing positivity and prayer is definitely the way to go through life. On the last day of term, after many rehearsals and fun, the time had come to perform our teachers Panto to the students. Oh what fun we had, it was most certainly worth the effort and time, not just for the joy of the students and staff but for the feeling of belonging and togetherness. I was able to spend time with colleagues whilst doing something fun and not work, being able to share something that will hold fond and happy memories. This boost of happiness couldn't have come at a better time, the day before, my dad was admitted to hospital fighting for breath. He was diagnosed with lower lung pneumonia. This was a reminder that dad isn't as strong as he used to be and as time goes on he is becoming more vulnerable to viruses. But in dads true stubborn form he was di...

Testing testing.... One two, one two....

Do you ever feel like you're being tested? I have been feeling tested since results day. This morning I started writing this post, it was full of negativity and tones of selfishness, feeling sorry for myself. It can feel like everything is out to get you. Well as today has come to an end I have revisited my post and completely rewritten it... My children have been taking it in turns to be ill, just as I think normal is back the other child comes down with another bug! Most of the time these changes to daily life are easy to shrug off. Other times not so much. It is so easy to fall into the 'woe is me' frame of mind. I am desperately trying not to. I am continuing my quest to find balance. We were due to have lunch with our pastor and his wife today, but Molly has had an up and down temperature, instead of make excuses and bow out due to a slightly poorly child (she is fine most of the time if taking it easy) we went. I am so glad we did. Molly enjoyed having ice cream...

Afterthoughts...

For those of you that haven't seen my Facebook post, the results weren't what we were hoping for. It hit us hard, the biggest thought in our minds being the kids, they now both have a 50% chance of inheriting the faulty gene. I do not like this. We have to remember that this doesn't change the 'now' but it does make life choices seem more important now. We must stay positive and pray that either science does its thing and finds a solution or that I don't show symptoms for as long as possible. I'd love to pray that a miracle happens and they never come. It is a constant battle to get the balance between hope and reality, trying not to give myself false hope, but prepare for what may come. Since the results things have started to test my resilience. Things that previously would have seemed insignificant have started to get the better of me. Poorly children meaning a change in routine has thrown me completely. I need normality right now. It is hard to proces...

Results day

Well the day has come to find out if I’ve inherited Motor Neurone Disease. I’m full of cold, have earache and had a night filled with sad dreams. Be that as it may I am going to choose happiness. I am going to focus on the joy that is my family, my friends, my work, my life. I am blessed in every aspect of my life. I thank God for all I have and whatever news it is I will keep my eyes fixed on him x

My amazing dad...

Even though dad can no longer lift a guitar he is still making wonderful music. This for him is the equivalent to me and gardening, life without it is just rubbish. The idea of not being able to do what I get enjoyment out of, find satisfaction and create something to be proud of is a hard pill to swallow. I am super proud of my dads ability to persevere, creating music for all to enjoy ☺️ Below is a link to his latest song... https://soundcloud.com/ornwalluso/forwards-and-upwards

Wonderful busy week

Thoroughly enjoyed my week full of work friends and family. I am very much enjoying my new found relaxed manner to how I do things and what I say yes to instead of no. I know this may seem alien to others but I am a conformist to the 'norm' when it comes to parenting. I think it stems from the taboo that surrounded (and still does) young mothers when I had Brandon at 19. Out of wedlock! The horror ;) I was very much judged, sometimes to my face! by the 'older generation'. This meant I was determined to be a 'good mum' for example I always made sure Brandon was in bed by 7 even when his friends were still out playing. I would never have even dreamt of having him out of the house past 7 either even if I needed to go to the shops for something vital. Anyhoo, I now realise that life is too short to care what others think of my parenting. As long as my children are fed, warm, safe and have enough sleep who cares what our routine is. Tuesday was my favourite day...
